Aden Sargeant is a Meanjin (Brisbane) based visual artist, musician and graphic designer.
Through installations of sculpture, audio and video Aden’s work responds to their disillusionment with the dysfunctions of the Australian political establishment by reframing the elements of political spectacle. Aden deploys the Situationist method of detournement to de-stabilise motifs from mainstream politics, activist iconography, symbols and visual cultures.
Graduating from their Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in 2017 at the Queensland University of Technology, they are currently undergoing a Master of Philosophy at the same institution. Since 2011, Aden has undertaken studies in music theory and production at Slade Gibson Music.
Directing System Label, an artist run initiative dedicated to producing immersive multimedia experiences, Aden has curated events like AV Video Art Festival, Panorama and The System Cut. They have headed creative projects for Anglicare, BTM Management, Jugglers Art Space, The Reverb Tour, and in 2017 directed a complete website redesign for St Francis Theological College.
Since 2011, Aden has managed, promoted and designed media for their band Three Point. Topping the Triple J Unearthed charts in 2013, the house music duo continues to release music and perform. In 2014, the band toured Queensland for The Reverb Tour, playing in venues across the east coast of Australia.
Working as a studio assistant at Paper Boat Press since 2015, he has gained experience in curatorial and studio practice, as well as retail.
In 2017, Aden commenced employment at QUT as a student ambassador, presenting design and visual art workshops throughout Queensland. In 2018, they began work as a sessional academic, tutoring Creative Industries undergraduate units for QUT.
