Curriculum Vitae

Biography
Aden Sargeant is a Brisbane-based visual artist, graphic designer and musician. Graduating from their Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in 2017 at the Queensland University of Technology, they are currently undergoing a Master of Philosophy at the same institution. Directing System Label, an artist run initiative dedicated to producing immersive multimedia experiences, Aden has curated events like AV Video Art Festival, Panorama and 2001: The System Cut. They have headed creative projects for Anglicare, Jugglers Art Space, AYCF, and in 2017 directed a complete website redesign for St Francis Theological College. Since 2011, Aden has managed, promoted and designed media for his band Three Point. Topping the Triple J Unearthed charts in 2013, the house music duo continues to release music and perform. Working as a studio assistant at Paper Boat Press since 2015, he has gained experience in curatorial and studio practice, as well as retail. In 2017 Aden commenced employment at QUT as a Widening Participation Officer, presenting design and visual art workshops throughout Queensland. In 2018, they began work as a sessional academic, tutoring first year units for QUT’s Creative Industries faculty.

Artist Statement
Through installations of video, sculpture and audio, Aden Sargeant’s work subverts notions of political messaging and critically investigates the elements which make up political spectacle. He responds to notions of disillusionment with the political establishment in Australia, critiquing the dysfunctions of Australian political systems. Through these investigations, he applies a Rancierian lens and practice-led research methodology. Concerns regarding the current jingoistic status quo are manifested in their evolving exploration and production of creative work. Their work further examines how the augmentation of material forms and spaces by digital technologies can extend the interpretative range of the work.
